Alstom to Supply 24 Trains to Germany

Alstom has received an order worth more than 130 million euros from DB Regio, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn, for the supply of 24 Coradia Continental regional trains. The new three- or four-car electric trains will be used on the German Breisgau S-Bahn network as suburban trains starting December 2019.

“We are pleased that DB Regio has again chosen our Coradia Continental, which has proven its reliability with over 99 percent availability in customer fleets,” said Didier Pfleger, vice president for Alstom in Germany and Austria. “It is an environmentally-friendly train made of 90 percent recyclable materials. Via the Coradia Continental, Alstom will contribute to the development of sustainable mobility in the German state of Baden Wurttemberg.”

Alstom’s Coradia Continental electric multiple unit three- and four-car operating trainsets have a passenger capacity of 164 or 249 seats each. The trains feature multi-purpose areas with sufficient space for wheelchairs, bicycles and prams. Throughout the train, the Coradia Continental is equipped with WiFi as well as sockets, video cameras and a real-time passenger information system displaying current train connection data.

The traction equipment is mounted on the roof of the Coradia Continental so that the interior of the train can offer better passenger flow. The train reaches operating speeds of up to 160 km/h.

DB Regio has more than 100 of Alstom’s Coradia Continental that are in use in the German states of Bavaria and North-Rhine-Westphalia. The company will operate the new vehicles in the German state of Baden-Württemberg on the lines of Freiburg – Endingen/Breisach, Freiburg – Titisee – Donaueschingen – Villingen and Freiburg – Titisee – Seebrugg. The trains will be built in Alstom’s plant in Salzgitter, Germany.
