On May 9, Amtrak will celebrate its second annual National Train Day, marking 140 years of connecting travelers from coast to coast by commemorating the day the first transcontinental railroad was created and looking toward the future of rail travel.
Amtrak will celebrate with large-scale events in four of its gateway stations across the United States, including Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Chicago and Los Angeles while many locally organized events take place in communities nationwide.
Amtrak said that through exhibits showcasing how train travel provides greener travel options and greater efficiency, National Train Day gives the public a glimpse into how the train shaped the country and how it will continue to do so. The festivities will feature live musical entertainment, interactive green exhibits, VIP appearances, a Kids Corner, and train exhibits from the past, present and future.
