BART to Replace Rail Interlockings

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) will shut down service between the Lafayette and Rockridge stations for five weekends, beginning in May, to work on a track replacement project.

Work crews will replace four mainline switches (interlockings), as well as other rail components, some of which are more than 40 years-old and have reached the end of their design life.

BART has also announced that track revitalization will begin in July to replace aging equipment in Hayward. The work is expected to require five weekend track shutdowns between the Bay Fair and South Hayward stations.
