BNSF Railway Company (BNSF) (NYSE: BNI) recently began a $10.5 million maintenance project to replace railroad ties between East Winona, Wis., and St. Croix Tower, Minn. From now through July, a BNSF maintenance crew of 43 people will replace more than 1,300 ties per day.
Overall, BNSF plans to spend an estimated $2 billion this year on its infrastructure, including track, signal systems, structures, freight cars, and upgrading technologies.
