NS' Bremus Awarded David W. Fries Award

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) has awarded Chris Bremus, director of risk management at Norfolk Southern Railway (NS), the 2016 David W. Fries Award for exemplary risk management efforts and practices in the railroad industry. The award was presented at the Railroad Insurance Management Association's (RIMA) annual meeting, which was recently held in Las Colinas, Texas.

Bremus, who has nearly 30 years of audit, accounting, project management and risk management experience with NS, was promoted to his current position in 2008. In addition, he has served as vice president elect, vice president and president of RIMA and is currently working on completing the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation.

“I am especially gratified about presenting the David W. Fries Award to this year’s recipient,” said CSX Railroad’s Juliana Keaton, who serves as chair of the David W. Fries Award Nominating Committee. “Chris Bremus is not to be underestimated and has added tremendous value to our industry with his understanding of its many nuances. Among other things, he was instrumental in developing the insurance requirements necessary to advance Positive Train Control and is a consistent contributor to RIMA and its members."

The David W. Fries Award is sponsored by RIMA, an association of railroad risk managers overseen by a board of elected officers from the railroad community and administered by the AAR. The award was established in honor of the late David W. Fries who served as director of risk management for NS and was a past president and officer of RIMA.
