Norfolk Southern Corporation’s (NS) Chairman, President, and CEO James A. Squires has announced the appointment of six people to new positions.

Thomas G. Werner
Effective February 1, Thomas G. Werner will become vice president corporate communications and chief sustainability officer, based in Norfolk, Va. Werner joined NS in 1999 as director IT program management and was promoted to vice president information technology in 2007. He was appointed vice president and treasurer in 2013. Werner holds degrees from Princeton and University of Pennsylvania.
C.H. “Jake” Allison, Jr.
C.H. “Jake” Allison, Jr. was promoted to vice president and treasurer, based in Norfolk, Va., effective February 1. In 1993, Allison joined NS as manager audits and served in audit and compliance, sourcing, and accounting positions. He was named vice president and controller in 2009. He was promoted to his current position of vice president audit and compliance in 2013. Allison holds a degree from Virginia Tech.
Susan S. Stuart
Effective February 1, Susan S. Stuart was named vice president audit and compliance, based in Atlanta, Ga. She joined NS in 1985 as an information technology developer and she served in information technology and accounting positions. She was appointed assistant vice president accounting operations, her most recent position, in 2008. Stuart holds degrees from the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech, and she completed the General Management Program at Harvard Business School.
Bruno Maestri
Bruno Maestri will become vice president government relations, based in Washington, D.C., on February 1. He joined NS in 1995 where he has served in positions relating to environmental management and protection, and then public affairs. He was named vice president government relations and corporate communications in 2005. In 2015, he became vice president government relations, corporate communications, and corporate sustainability officer. Maestri holds degrees from the University of Virginia.
Jerry W. Hall
Effective March 1, Jerry W. Hall is the new vice president mechanical, based in Atlanta, Ga. He joined Norfolk Southern in 1985 as a management trainee and served in several positions before becoming vice president intermodal operations in 2013. He was named to his most recent position, vice president network and service management, in 2013. Hall holds a degree from the University of Alabama and has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
Karol R. Lawrence
Karol R. Lawrence was appointed vice president network and service management based in Atlanta, effective March 1. She joined NS in 2001 as director program management office, and served in planning and technology and strategic planning positions. Lawrence was named assistant vice president information technology in 2006. She holds degrees from Susquehanna University and Villanova University and completed the General Management Program at Harvard Business School.
In addition to the appointments, Squires also announced the retirement of Donald D. Graab, vice president mechanical in Atlanta, Ga., and Frank S. Brown, assistant vice president corporate communications, Norfolk, Va. Graab served at NS for 39 years, and Brown retires after 38 years.
