Cando Rail Services has appointed Deirdre Rains business development director for the United States, responsible for growing its switching services in several key target industries in the United States.
Rains joins Cando with 24 years of experience in rail transportation management in the agriculture industry. She has experience in railcar fleet management; negotiating rail and truck equipment leases, as well as and rail freight pricing; and managing transportation safety programs and corporate insurance.
Most recently, Rains was The Mosaic Company’s project manager for a switching and mechanical services contract awarded to Cando. Through a collaborative and long-term relationship between the two companies, Rains helped expand Cando’s rail services to three new locations in Western Canada.
Rains earned a master’s degree in education and previously was a high school educator for 10 years.
“Cando sees opportunities to expand in the United States and with Deirdre’s rail transportation expertise and network of industry contacts, she is perfectly positioned to lead that growth,” said Steve Bromley, vice president of industrial rail switching at Cando.
Based in Brandon, Manitoba, Cando Rail Services is an international provider of rail support services.
