Quandel Consultants has named Peter Windschmitt director of railroad operations to contribute to the firm’s efforts on Amtrak’s Hiawatha Service between Chicago and Milwaukee.
Windschmitt has worked in the rail industry for more than 15 years and has expertise in freight operations, transportation planning, and freight and passenger systems integration.
He began his career as a train dispatcher for Union Pacific Railroad and later worked in transportation planning and as a senior systems engineer. He also worked as chief planner at HNTB, where he led the operations planning of Florida’s Brightline.
Windschmitt earned Master of Science degree in information technology from Carnegie Mellon University and a graduate certificate in operations research from Columbia University. He is a member of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences, as well as the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers.
“When integrating freight and passenger systems, it’s important to consider how decisions will impact operations now, a few years from now, and decades down the road,” said Windschmitt. “As director of railroad operations, I work to balance day-to-day freight needs alongside long-range passenger plans.”
