IONX LLC, the telematics technology unit of Amsted Rail, has acquired Salco Technologies LLC, a telematics provider for leading chemical shippers and a wholly owned subsidiary of Salco Products Inc. Salco Technologies' product lines and operations will be fully integrated into IONX's West Chester, Pa.-based organization by January 2009.

Joseph Boardman, former Federal Railroad Administrator, will lead Amtrak for the next year.
The appointment was hailed widely in railroad circles because of Boardman's familiarity with Amtrak issues and leadership style. Boardman, 59, succeeds CEO Alex Kummant, who resigned in mid-November.
