Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (G&W) has reported a decrease of 8.5 percent, or 22,451 carloads, for July 2016 rail traffic compared to July 2015. Carloads totaled 242,950 for the month.
Caltrain, the commuter rail service provider for the San Francisco Peninsula, has recorded an all-time high average weekday ridership of 60,219 passengers for the 2016 fiscal year, which ended on June 30. This is a 3.2 percent increase from last year, which held the previous record.
Kansas City Southern subsidiary, The Kansas City Southern Railway Company (KCSR), will invest approximately $13 million in its Greenville Subdivision through Texas and Louisiana during 2016.
The investment will include the replacement of 2.5 miles of rail and 64,000 cross ties, as well as improvements to more than 80 road crossings.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) President Dorval R. Carter, Jr. have announced that work will begin this September on a $23 million project to renovate and modernize the Illinois Medical District (IMD) Blue Line station.
