RailPros will serve as the program management consultant for the construction of a 9-mile long passenger rail service between the City of San Bernardino and the City of Redlands. The project includes the renewal of infrastructures, development of stations and vehicle acquisitions.
The line will travel on the Redlands Subdivision between San Bernardino Transit Center (SBTC) at Rialto and E Street to the University of Redlands, utilizing the existing railroad right-of-way owned by the San Bernardino Associated Governments (SANBAG). BNSF currently operates a weekly local freight train on the line.
Mary Toutounchi will lead the RailPros team in providing management support and oversight of the project development, engineering, construction management, and third parties. Track, bridges, at-grade highway-rail crossings, and related existing infrastructure will be rehabilitated or replaced; a new wayside signal and communications system that includes positive train control (PTC) will be installed; up to five passenger loading platforms will be built; a fare collection system will be procured; and a maintenance facility will be rehabilitated.
Construction is projected to start in the spring of 2018, with operations beginning in mid 2020.
A limited number of Metrolink trains will operate by extending service on the San Gabriel Subdivision from SBTC Redlands. Diesel multiple units will be used between SBTC and Redlands, at 30-minute headways in each direction, with passing siding in the middle of the alignment.
