TriMet Proposes $1.5 Billion 2021 Budget

Portland’s TriMet has proposed a fiscal year 2021 budget of $607 million for operations and $329.7 million for capital improvements.

The budget includes the following for the MAX light rail system:

  • $25.8 million for continued design work and initial manufacturing for the next generation of light rail vehicles;
  • repairs and upgrades to the MAX system, including multiple improvements to the Steel Bridge and renovating stations;
  • continuing work to convert the MAX Light Rail System to 100 percent wind power; and
  • continuing progress on expanding the MAX Red line further into Washington County.

The proposed budget will be submitted to the board of Directors for adoption on May 27, 2020. If adopted, the new budget takes effect on July 1, 2020 and runs through June 30, 2021.
