Watco Transloading, LLC has established a definitive licensed agreement with Norfolk Southern Corporation (NS) to operate the newly established NS Thoroughbred Bulk Terminal (TBT) in Sandusky, Ohio. Watco will begin transload operations at Sandusky in July.
“We are very excited to begin operations in Sandusky, and are extremely grateful for having been given the opportunity to expand our presence in the NS TBT Network,” said Marc Massoglia, Watco vice president marketing and sales.
The former Triple Crown Services facility, located between Toledo and Cleveland on Lake Erie, will allow Watco and NS to drive new incremental transload business and further establish the Watco/NS TBT Terminal presence in the Ohio Region. Watco currently operates three other existing TBT Terminals in the greater Ohio Region, including terminals in Columbus and Euclid, Ohio, as well as in Willis, Mich.
“Our growing presence in the Ohio Region enables Watco the ability to expand on our existing customer relationships, as well as establish new lasting relationships with the surrounding communities,” stated Watco Marketing Manager Ryan Krull.
Watco is allocated thirty fully paved railcar spots at the terminal with laydown space available for ongoing storage of customer related products. The site has room for expansion if business levels warrant the need to increase operations.
Watco will focus on transloading several commodities, including but not limited to the chemicals, plastics, forest products, steel products, and various agricultural related products. The ongoing operations will include origin and destination transloading, as well as the ability to provide outside storage for various break-bulk products.
“The team will ensure that we not only meet the needs of our customers, but that we do so in accordance with Watco’s Foundation Principles, by valuing our customers, valuing our people and safely improving each and every day,” said Vice President Operations Clint Woods.
The Sandusky terminal is Watco's 58th terminal location in the company's Terminal & Port Services network.
