The Association of American Railroads (AAR) has reported that U.S. rail traffic for the week ending December 24, 2016, totaled 496,633 carloads and intermodal units, a 27 percent increase compared to the same week in 2015.

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) has reported that U.S. rail traffic for the week ending December 17, 2016, totaled 523,949 carloads and intermodal units, a 0.3 percent decrease compared to the same week in 2015.
New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has announced that the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will begin revenue service on the new Second Avenue Subway at noon on January 1. The inaugural ride will take place on December 31.
